Spirometry – 1‑Day Refresher Course

Our one-day spirometry refresher course provides essential theoretical, practical, and interpretational skills for respiratory testing. It is ideal for professionals who already perform spirometry and need an annual update to maintain confidence and competence.
The course focuses on accurate measurement, interpretation, and clinical relevance of spirometry, supporting safe practice and effective monitoring of respiratory health in the workplace.

This course is also recommended for those who have previously completed our one-and-a-half-day spirometry competency course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

1. Prepare appropriate protocols for consistent spirometry assessments.
2. Obtain technically acceptable and accurate spirometry results in line with BTS and NICE guidelines.
3. Understand volume–time and flow–volume graphs.
4. Apply appropriate criteria before interpreting spirometry results.
5. Identify abnormal spirometry findings.
6. Recognise disease patterns from lung function curves and associated parameters.
7. Understand the relevance and limitations of spirometry in conditions including asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, occupational lung disease, and other respiratory disorders.
